Frequently asked questions
-
Does AI note-taking work offline?
Only if the AI actually runs on your device. Xtraktr's does: transcription, questions, and drafts all work in airplane mode, because the model lives on the iPhone itself.

Is there an app that asks you questions to develop your ideas?
Yes, that's exactly what Xtraktr is built to do. You say a rough idea out loud and it interviews you, one question at a time, until you know what you actually think.

Can I dictate LinkedIn posts with my voice?
You can, but what comes back is a transcript, not a post. The missing step between talking and a postable draft is being asked questions about what you said.

What is an AI thinking partner?
A tool that helps you work out what YOU think by asking questions and structuring your answers, instead of generating opinions for you. The output is your thinking, drawn out.

How do I write like I talk?
Stop trying to write like you talk. Just talk, then edit the transcript. Your spoken voice already has the rhythm you're trying to fake at a keyboard.

Where do my voice notes go — does the app keep my audio?
In Xtraktr, nowhere: your voice is processed entirely on the iPhone and your words never touch our servers. Notes sync only through your own private iCloud. For most other voice AI apps, read the deletion policy. It's an admission your audio was collected.

Which note apps actually use Apple Intelligence on-device?
Very few. Most 'AI' note apps run their models in the cloud and use Apple's on-device features only for dictation. Xtraktr runs its entire AI loop (transcription, questioning, drafting) on Apple's on-device models and the iPhone's own chip.

Is there a private alternative to Voicenotes?
Depends what you mean by private. Voicenotes and similar apps process your audio on their servers under a privacy policy. If you want your voice processed on your own phone, with no server involved at all, that's an architectural difference, and it's Xtraktr's whole design.

What should I do with all my old voice memos?
Triage the backlog once, keep only what still sparks, and fix the system so new thoughts get processed the moment you speak them. Capture without processing is why the pile exists.

Can I use AI notes if my work involves confidential client material?
The safest AI architecture for confidential work is one where the material never reaches a vendor at all. Xtraktr processes everything on your iPhone. We never receive your words, so there's no vendor on our end to vet. (Your compliance obligations are still yours; check with your advisor.)
