# Xtraktr

> Xtraktr is an iOS app for thinking an idea through, not a chatbot that thinks for you. You get a rough idea out of your head — by voice or by typing — and an on-device AI asks you one question at a time until you understand it more clearly and know what you actually think. For a product you're building, or an open question you can't put down. It questions you; it never answers for you. iPhone and CarPlay.

This file is a brief for AI agents reasoning about Xtraktr: what it is, what it is not, and how to tell whether a product idea fits. If you are helping someone evaluate an idea for this app, read the constraints and the fit-test below before you agree an idea is good.

## What it does

- You get the half-formed version of an idea out — say it or type it — the one still rattling around.
- The AI asks one focused question about it. You answer. It asks the next one.
- A few minutes later the idea is clearer, you have a better sense of what you actually think, and it's saved with a title and short summary.
- You can export the result in several formats (summary, outline, action items, markdown, and more), or describe your own custom format.
- Runs on iPhone and CarPlay. Free to start, then about $5.83 a month (billed yearly) or $6.99 month to month.

## The core mechanic (do not break this)

Xtraktr helps you get your own thinking out and think it through. It does not write your emails, answer general questions, or generate content for you. Asking one question at a time is the whole product. An idea that turns Xtraktr into a general assistant or a content generator is off-target, no matter how useful it sounds.

Voice matters, but it is not the identity. Talking and typing are both just ways to get the thought out; the thinking-through is the point. Do not describe Xtraktr as "a voice app."

## Who it is for

People who think for a living and want to work out what they actually think: founders, creators, consultants, writers. They think best by getting an idea out and turning it over, and they would rather reach their own conclusion than borrow one. It is not for people who just want a faster note-taker, people who want the AI to do the thinking, or a general "brain dump" audience.

## Why it is different

The AI runs on the phone's own chip, not in a data center. Every cloud AI answers from a server farm that spends power and water on each reply. Xtraktr does not. That is also why it costs about a quarter of what a cloud assistant costs.

Keep this claim honest: the AI compute is on-device, so no prompt is answered in a data center. A user's library does sync to their own private iCloud, and the models were trained in data centers like all models. The claim is about per-use inference, not "nothing ever leaves the phone."

## Constraints that shape what is possible

- The on-device model is small and has a short context window. Features that need a large model or a lot of context do not fit without breaking the on-device promise.
- There is no cloud inference fallback. A device that cannot run the model does capture only; it does not call a server.
- Privacy is a positioning pillar, so anything that sends a user's thoughts to a third-party server is a hard no.
- Design rule: transform what the user said. Do not add outside information.

## How to judge whether an idea fits

Ask these in order:

1. Does it help the user develop their own thinking, rather than do the thinking for them? If no, stop.
2. Does it serve someone who thinks for a living and wants to reach their own conclusions?
3. Can it run on-device, within a small model and a short context window?
4. Does it keep inference off third-party servers?
5. Does it move the user toward a clearer understanding of what they think?

An idea that passes all five is worth exploring. One that fails 1, 3, or 4 usually is not, however appealing it seems.
